MORE SKA, MORE GUITAR

After the release of their sizzling CD "more ska, more guitar" two years of hard work followed, but now Skaguitar is becoming a well established name. Several big outdoor festivals and numerous jazz-club-gigs account for their reputation of being an adventurous live-band whose songs appeal to a broad audience.

We asked the guitarists what they prefer: recording or performing live?

"The thing I really like about recording is the freedom it gives you to pay attention to every detail", says Bobby, "but there's nothing like the energy you get from being onstage." "And as a bonus, every night the repetoire changes a bit: the band improvises and that makes the compositions grow, as if they have a life of their own", adds GR.

So you've put away the recording-gear?

"Definitely not!" they both shout. "We are working on new songs. Playing live has made the band tighter than ever and we want to capture that."

Then what are your plans for this Festival season?

"Improvise more, have more fun and generally make more music", Bobbie laughs. "Same for me", says GR.

The Skaguitar sound is best described as powerful fusion with ska and reggae influences. It is brimming with gutsy guitar riffs, instantaneously catchy sing-along melody lines, jazzy improvisations and progressive solos.

The formative years of the band were during the two-tone period and it shows, but over the years Skaguitar have developed their own unique sound, with influences from Ernest Ranglin to Joe Satriani, from Django Reinhardt to Mike Stern. This results in a wide variety of songs: some energetic, some dreamy, always interesting.
